YKK Mexicana S.A. de C.V Celebrates 25 Years

YKK Mexicana S.A. de C.V. held a ceremony commemorating its 25th anniversary on November 12, 2019.

YKK Mexicana was established in September 1994 as a small plant in Puebla that assembled basic coil and metal zippers. By 1996 sales had soared by more than 200 percent, far exceeding projections. By this time, Mexico boasted three major jeans manufacturing centers, so YKK Mexicana opened its first Field Tech Center in Torreon to serve them. Meanwhile, YKK Mexicana began producing the popular 45 YG jeans zipper from chain machines, evolving from assembling to actual manufacturing. By the end of 1997, YKK Mexicana was ready to build a new plant in Irapuato. From its inception, this facility was designed for totally integrated manufacturing. The grand opening for this facility occurred in 2001. YKK Mexicana has since moved far beyond those early days, now providing customers with fastening solutions for the apparel, luggage, sporting goods, government, safety, medical, and automotive and transportation industries, among many others.

Jim Reed, president YKK Corporation of America, took the opportunity to recognize this year's Core Values Awards winners during the ceremony. The three winners, Clara Maria Marquez, Liliana Arguello and Cristian Hernandez, were selected by their peers for exemplifying YKK's Core Values.

Approximately 300 people attended the ceremony, including Governor of Guanajuato State Diego Sinhue Rodríguez, Mayor of Irapuato Ricardo Ortiz Gutiérrez, Economic Development Secretary Mauricio Usabiaga, Consul-General of Japan in León Osamu Hokida, and customers and companies closely related to YKK. The ribbon cutting for YKK Mexicana S.A. de C.V.’s new employee dining hall was also held on the same day.
